The City of Napa is on the move with a new riverwalk, the Oxbow district, and a vibrant, walkable downtown filled with restaurants, specialty retail shops, and wine tasting rooms.
The origins of the City of Napa as a busy wharf city and "silver lode” town in the 1850s and the energy of this rich history are felt today in the carefully planned redevelopment of the city's core.
The Napa Mill Project is the largest redevelopment project in Napa's history. What was once a grain mill with 99-foot-tall silos on the historic Napa River has become a specialty mecca. Restaurants, gift shops, an art gallery, a spa, an evening jazz club, and a boutique hotel combine to create an attractive, bustling atmosphere along the river.
The Napa Valley Opera House is the cultural heart of The Napa Valley. The "Grand Old Lady" of 1879 houses the intimate Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre and provides an ideal venue for a variety of professional performances.
Adding to the warm kaleidoscope of Napa's history and culture is COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts. This unique cultural center located in the exciting Oxbow District showcases interactive exhibits and teaching kitchens. An array of public programs is available for all ages, including films, music, garden programs, lectures, culinary demonstrations and wine tastings.
The new Oxbow Public Market is immediately adjacent to COPIA. Here you can enjoy a glass of wine while sitting on the white patio overlooking the Napa River's oxbow, browse specialty food and retail shops, pick up some fresh produce, or grab a delectable bite to eat. This is a stop not to be missed.
Ride the City of Napa's Downtown Trolley—the fare is free. You'll travel through charming Victorian neighborhoods and make several stops. It's a great way to experience the City of Napa's past, and discover its wonderful, present-day charm.
